Fusion research commonly either focuses on studying the behavior of hot plasmas in order to enable the control of the fusion furnace, or on developing materials for future fusion power stations. Whereas LPP-ERM/KMS and SPP-ULB of the Belgian Euratom Association for Fusion work on the former, the Fusion Department of SCK/CEN is active for the latter.
The Studiecentrum voor Kernenergie / Centre d'Etudes Nucléaires, Mol, contributes to the know-how on the impact of neutron irradiation of materials. Among others, radiation tolerance of remote handling and diagnostics are being studied. Also corrosion and other specific reactor safety aspects related to waste and decommissioning are examined.
Head of Research Unit: M. Decréton (Head Fusion Programme SCK/CEN)
